Lantern Dance Theatre School
Fifty dancers from Helen Pettit’s Lantern Dance Theatre School in Ely will perform excerpts from the school’s latest ballet "Cinderella" and some favourite numbers from their varied and colourful repertoire. The dancers are aged between 4 and 18. Costumes are designed and made by Rebecca Valentine.
Funk It Up Dance Group
Today we have our beginner's and juniors crew collaborating for the festival. These young dancers have only been dancing together for 10 weeks and are excited to show you a variety of streetdance styles with in their first ever performance as a new team. SUSPECTS Cru are in association with Elys own Funk It Up Dance Groups and Newmarket School of Dance. We welcome all ages and abilities into our classes and sessions to help spread streetdance in a fun and safe environment. We pride ourselves on staying true to each styles authenticity. As a crew we train, compete/ battle and perform together. Some competitions from this school year have taken us to Dublin, Germany, Prague, Paris, L.A. and all around the UK. We have been lucky enough to have qualified for the world's, Europeans and six nations so we will be attending some more competitions to win more titles. If you like what you see come and chat to the dancers in blue after our performance and we will be happy to advise you on a community class of ours to take.
The Rocking Ukuleles of Ely
The Rocking Ukuleles Of Ely are always ready to make people smile and sway with their well-loved rocking songs. The ukulele club now has over one hundred members, of which a selection of these talented ukulele players can be seen today.
Suspects Cru practises all urban and social dance styles together and they perform, teach and battle across the country. The crew includes both children and adults to promote that age is not a factor when it comes to sharing the love of dance.
4th Dimension Dance
4th Dimension Dance provides fantastic, high quality dance and performance training for all ages and abilities in Ely, Littleport, Fordham and Cottenham. Their timetable comprises of various dance styles including Commercial, Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary and Lyrical. They are a friendly and welcoming bunch ensuring their ethos of kindness, creativity and confidence is strong in every single class. The aim is to grow the passion for dance and performing in their students and nurture their own style and imagination.
Elysian Belly Dance
Elysian Belly Dance offers classes and workshops in a range of Middle Eastern dance styles. Classes are available on Thursday evenings for beginners and improvers. Elysian Belly Dance is run by Elizabeth who graduated from the Academy of Arabic Dance last year. She teaches Arabic folk dances, dancing with props and modern, pop and fusion styles. New budding belly dancers always welcome.
Today’s performance is from some of the students at KD Academy. KD Academy offers quality and affordable training for young people; KD has a passion for nurturing young talent and helping develop their skills in all arts disciplines.
KD Academy runs every Saturday at the The Ross Peers Sports Centre in Soham and Isle of Ely Primary School in Ely.
Their next academy production is the hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’ at The Maltings in Ely this July!
Josh Aitken, musician
Josh is a young local musician with a passion for creating his own style of music. He performs a mix of Indie, pop and rock and has performed regularly around Ely and Cambridge solo and as part of a band. Josh works closely with ADEC as part of their Innovation evenings and is a member of Fenland Jam.
