Award winning Peacocks Tearooms will be serving Eel Catcher’s Tea which is a strong welcoming brew laced with rum. In addition, they will be offering their Isle of Ely Pudding, a steamed pudding topped with apple and clotted cream, sitting in a lake of caramel sauce – sounds yummy!
The well educated guys at Ely’s very own bijou pub have once again brought together the local producers from Three Blind Mice Brewery and Ely Gin Company to create a one off, limited edition, special ale entitled – “Lemon Meranguilla”. This is a direct pun on the word “anguilliform” meaning shaped like or resembling an eel. Who would have thought hey!
We just love the punning that the team at Grand Central have spun on their menu for the weekend. They will be offering “TequEELa Sunrise” – an Eel Festival themed cocktail with a twist on a classic mix which is the perfect accompaniment to their “Burr-eel-to” an imaginative eel shaped burrito as well as an Eel themed “Burger of the Weekend”. Wow we can’t wait!

The team at “Ely’s Proper Pub” have once again come up with an inspiring apple and walnut polenta cake with smoked eel in earl grey jelly with pickled apple and candied walnuts. We can’t wait to see that array!
Julia's Tea Rooms and Gallery
We are delighted that another of Ely's tearooms has taken up the challenge and come on board with our safaria. Julia's will be serving smoked eel pate with artisan bread, salad garnish and chutney as well as eel shaped buttery biscuits filled with buttercream and jam. Yum yum!
Lemon Tree Deli Cafe
We are delighted that Ely's newest deli has come on board with our Eel Food Safari this year. Renowned for their homemade cakes and bakes, they have decorated their scrumptious chocolate brownies with eels! Call in over the Festival Weekend and try one.
The Royal Standard
New to our Safari and challenging their sister pub The Prince Albert, the RS team have come up with a different idea to use eel. Theirs is a smoked eel with horseradish pannacotta, pickled ginger, kohlrabi and carrot salad. Well done guys – most creative.

Well known for their freshly prepared, locally sourced menu, 3 at 3 will be offering an “Eely Good Platter” (we love the name!) of smoked eel and hot smoked salmon with speciality dips and sauces. Enjoy with a glass of locally sourced beer or wine either served inside or al fresco.
The Ely Fudge Company
Ely’s very own handmade fudge company offers a wide variety of flavours of fudge from the traditional to the more adventurous. For this weekend only, they have created the ultimate Jelly Eel Fudge, combining their handmade fudge with colourful wiggly eels – a must for all children and adults alike!
On the starter menu at Ely’s very own boutique hotel restaurant will be a smoked eel terrine with poached john dory, pickled carrot and beetroot. So if you haven’t tasted eel before why not book a table this weekend – enjoy!
